He has served as Secretary of Education for the state of Oklahoma, Director of Education Policy in Ohio, and led major statewide education initiatives focused on governance, organizational performance, and system efficiency. His work has consistently centered on designing high-performing, cost-effective education systems that support quality instructional practice.
Dr. Sommers began his career as a teacher in agricultural education and has since worked alongside boards of education, executive leadership teams, and policymakers to improve how education systems operate.
